Rangers Land Dempster, Keep Top Prospects
The Texas Rangers made it clear, they were not giving up top prospects Profar or Mike Olt. Many felt the Rangers had to give up one of them to land a top notch pitcher, turns out they didn’t. The Rangers land Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster who is 5-5 with a 2.25 ERA this season. The Rangers did give up two minor league players, 1 A pitcher Kyle Hendricks and Christian Villanueva. The Rangers also stated pitcher Neftali Feliz will undergo Tommy Johns surgery, meaning the Dempster trade was a bigger deal than originally thought. Rangers also move Roy Oswalt to the bull pen, after his horrible start.
3 Cowboys Fail Conditioning Test
Running back Felix Jones, new safety Brodney Pool, and receiver Andre Holmes all failed the conditioning test prior to training camp. They will now work with strength coach Mike Woicik until they are cleared to practice. Felix Jones was expected to back up DeMarco Murray, but was still expected to get significant carries this season. Pool was signed to a 1 year deal to possibly be the starting safety.
Rangers trade for Cubs Catcher, Looking for an ACE
The Texas Rangers have traded for Geovany Soto and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs on Monday. The Rangers gave up minor league pitcher Jake Brigham. July 31st is the trade deadline, Rangers are still in the hunt for a pitcher.
Andre Johnson Injured
The Houston Texans star WR Andre Johnson was injured at practice with a “mild strain” to his groin. Johnson is expected to miss about a week of practice.
